It’s been decorated with a hint of blue brushwork to compliment the wet scrafitto through a porcelain salt-slip, back to the clay body underneath. It is fired on refractory wadds, hence the three decorative halos to it’s base. This serves to elevate and separate the pot from the shelf to prevent it binding during the wood-salt firing process. The willow-ash liner glaze is over a porcelain slip, which breaks from bronze on the rim to duck-egg blue. Wheel-thrown in black stoneware, fired to 1300*C. This pot has been fired on the top shelf, so it’s been hot! The wonderful maturation and quiet irridescence of glaze surface is a result of the rich blast of salt and fly-ash.

We call these straight standards, but they are neither straight or standard! The subtle waisted shape creates the perfect inside shape for the handle, the comfort of which is crucial to the success of any large mug. They are a significant contrast to my deeply textured mugs, but I love their simplicity and making them just the same!

I much prefer daylight to photograph pots, than studio lights. The clean canvas of snow is a particularly good white balance to set off the subtle colours and surfaces of our wood-salt fired pots. But by mug number three, my finger tips were completely numb, and I couldn’t push down the shutter button of the camera! So it was back inside to the relative warm!

Price: £38.00
Height: 9cm
Width: 9cm
Volume: 400ml
Weight: 375g

P&P: £7

Multiple item purchases to the same address will incur additional P&P of £3 per pot.
