This bowl is wood-fired and salt-glazed, the rouletted rim has a blue/black salt-slip with a contrasting porcelain slip to the underside. The liner glaze to the inside is an off-white shino. It is wheel-thrown and altered in white stoneware, fired to 1300*C. The paler clay used on this bowl offers a brightness and lightness to the accompanying slips and glazes. The pot is fired on refractory wadds, hence the numerous decorative halos to it’s base. This serves to elevate and separate the pot from the shelf to prevent it binding.
We find these handled bowls incredibly useful for all manner of dishes, but soup is our favourite. Cupped with a warm bowl of freshly made roasted squash and garlic soup, delicious!
