Description

This a more modestly sized mug, wheel-thrown and altered in black stoneware. This dark clay offers a rich depth to it’s accompanying slips and glazes. The clay itself often form a glassy finish when salt-glazed or sometimes it turns a wonderful matt black where it is sheltered from the flame path. The mug is rouletted with a textured pattern. This enjoyable process has the effect of altering the base of the form to a soft flared frill, providing a satisfying purchase and comfort in the user’s hand. The outside has a porcelain slip and a willow-ash glaze; a combination which beautifully accentuates the fine rouletted texture. The inside has a deep rusty orange shino glaze. It is wood-fired to 1300*C. The pot is fired on three sea-shells, hence the three decorative halos to it’s base. This serves to elevate and separate the pots from the shelf to prevent it binding.

Hello, I have just taken delivery of this mug. I’m not a hot drinks guy, but my wife firmly has a tea mug in hand most of the time. I would like to say how great communication with Jeremy is and the mug was packaged extremely well. I’m not one for posting reviews normally but this isn’t a normal purchase. The photos don’t capture the glaze, the marvelous blend of how rustic the mug looks yet how dainty the finished ceramic is. You would think it would be more of a chunky piece but in fact it’s wonderfully surprising how fine the details are. Couldn’t be happier, go on his pages and see the mans work you are buying. Now please make some 300ml beakers for me to have an excuse to buy one for myself, for my rum 😀
