Description

I return again and again to this undulating baluster jug shape, it’s one of my very favourites to make. It makes a perfect water jug for the table, or a milk jug for a large family. This jug has been fired on one of the top shelves, so it’s been hot; the wonderful maturation of glaze and slip surfaces is result of a rich blast of salt and fly-ash.
Wood-fired salt-glaze, rouletted textures to neck, salt-slipped and raw-glazed with willow-ash. Wheel-thrown black stoneware, fired to 1300*C. It is fired on refractory wadds, hence the three halos to it’s base. This serves to elevate and separate the pot from the shelf to prevent it binding. The liner glaze to the inside is a deep orange shino.
